Atop of the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valleta, Malta, we join the announcement panel of WelchAllyn.
It have been some quiet months in which Freddy de Vettige seemed absent, but finally, word came out that some hefty changes were coming to his tallow company and his cycling team.
'We've embraced the hospitality of the great Maltese people and made arrangements to start a Maltese super star team, alongside the WelchAllyn small nations team we've come to know the past few years', Freddy announced from the stage. 'We have the expertise to build out a capable team, focused on cobblestones, hills and sprints. The countryside of Malta will provide us with these training grounds to really create somethinh beautiful here.'
When questioned why Freddy decided to close down his tallow company, he simply answered that his ambitions had shifted and that the favourable tax burdens of Malta were purely coincidental to his desire to branch out WelchAllyn.
'Our first Maltese recruit Orlando is already in training, while we also focus on the new youngsters of WelchAllyn', he proudly proclaimed, hinting at Mitre, Leopoldo and Serafin.
'While we didn't meet our target to win Tournai-Tournai the past couple seasons, we proved we're able to hold our own in 3rd division! More even, at this moment, our team in Norway is proving in the tour how capable they are, inching away from second division, with an all time score of 1136 points!'
'Our cobble team has once again shown that it's a diverse and strong group of individuals that's able to guide us to victory', referring to the recent winnings of Kristiaan and Fylkir. 'While some of our first recruits like Donald are taking on a more supportive role with their knowledge, we see that the youngsters are eager to take up the mantle.'
'The same can be said about our polyvalent sprinting team, while Mitre will head most upcoming sprinting stages, we see that our members like Pepillo and Amarildo are willing to push the team to the maximum to get results.'
When asked about further goals apart from the new Maltese team and location, Freddy simply added to 'just have fun, see where it takes the team'.
It is without saying that the coming seasons a lot of fun is to be had by WelchAllyn, as when the press panel concluded the team dissappeared into the citylife of Valletta, the sun and fresh breeze passing by their smiles.

Thanks, hun! Reached Zyte Division finally at 1166 points!
Good luck Freddy with your Maltese ossewit!
Thanks all! Concerning the flags: I try to mainly keep my team to smaller European nations (microstates and the like) to provide them a home. But the Belgians and Maltese have a soft spot!
That would be interesting - to have a team of riders only with white and red flags. Malta, Poland, Austria, Canada, Singapore, Monaco, England, Denmark, Switzerland... Quite a nice mix!
Time to start a red-white flag alliance ;)
Good Luck in Malta.
